Local Stakeholders Consultation Meeting in Belize

From a very rainy ‘Sugar City’ Orange Walk, a successful LSC (Local Stakeholders Consultation) meeting was held in Belize City today, which aims to obtain feedback from the local people and from the online virtual presence. There were already about 20 very useful questions and comments, all of which will be incorporated into the first Stakeholder Feedback Round. Until 22 February, attendees have been asked to send additional questions and comments, if there are any (see below). On the following Monday, a Local Stakeholders Consultation Report will be drawn up, which will be submitted for preliminary review to Gold Standard. This is the start of the certification process.

The project plans a Multi-Country Program of Activities (PoA) that brings solar panels closer to the user. Belize is one of the few countries where no solar panels have been installed without this program! The name of the program certified under Gold Standard is: “Distributed Generation Solar Central America.” In a room that can accommodate between 20 and 30 people, project manager Belize highlighted the local progress. With the help of expert Rogier van Meenen, the background of PoA and the requirements of Gold Standard were made clear. The most recent updates of the Gold Standard were used for both the Local Stakeholder Consultation Requirements and the PoA Design Consultation Regulations.

Following the meeting, when the rain and wind had cleared, the solar panel installation of Brody’s Supermarket was visited. Since 2023, the first installation there has been experienced as very enjoyable, with results that are well above expectations, according to Roger, General Manager of Brody’s. Vanuit een zeer regenachtige ‘Sugar City’ Orange Walk, is in Belize City vandaag een succesvolle LSC (Local Stakeholders Consultation) meeting gehouden, die als doel feedback moet verkrijgen van de lokale mensen en vanuit de online virtuele aanwezigheid. Er waren al zo’n 20 zeer nuttige vragen en opmerkingen, die alle verwerkt zullen worden in de eerste Stakeholder Feedback Round. Tot 22 Februari is gevraagd aan de aanwezigen om nog aanvullende vragen en opmerkingen te sturen, mochten die er nog zijn. Op de maandag daarna zal er vervolgens een Local Stakeholders Consultation Report worden opgemaakt, die zal worden ingediend voor preliminary review bij Gold Standard. Dit is de start van het certificeringsproces.

Het project betreft een Multi-Country Program of Activities (PoA) die zonnepanelen dichter bij de gebruiker brengt. Belize is een van de weinige landen waar zonder toedoen van dit programma geen zonnepanelen geinstalleerd zijn tot op heden! De naam van het programma dat onder Gold Standard wordt gecertificeerd is: “Distributed Generation Solar Central America.”

In een zaal die tussen de 20 en 30 mensen herbergen kan, lichtte projectmanager Belize de lokale vorderingen uit. Met de hulp van expert Rogier van Meenen werden de achtergrond van PoA en de vereisten van Gold Standard duidelijk gemaakt. Er werd voor zowel de Local Stakeholder Consultation Requirements als ook de PoA Design Consultation Regulations, gebruik gemaakt van de meest recente updates van Gold Standard.

Aansluitend op de vergadering, toen de regen en wind was weggetrokken, is de zonnepanelen installatie van Brody’s Supermarket bezichtigd. Daar wordt sinds 2023 de eerste installatie als zeer plezierig ervaren, met resultaten die ruim boven verwachting zijn, aldus Roger, General Manager van Brody’s.
